World Travellers… Almost…

We’re slowly turning into world travellers, almost…

If you choose a life with more freedom and want to explore the world, traveling kind of becomes part of the deal. It’s like a necessary evil-you want to get somewhere, so you get on that plane.

But let’s be honest: it’s always a love-hate relationship.

Packing the bags. Choosing the right outfits. You want to look cute, but obviously not bring your entire wardrobe. And the shoes… oh, the shoes!

I know I won’t get any help from my husband — he truly doesn’t understand the daily wardrobe struggles of a woman. Especially not during that time of the month. And honestly? I can’t even blame him, because I don’t like myself much during those days either.

But once we’ve survived that little fashion crisis, the actual trip can begin.

The kids are surprisingly easy to pack for. Our son does it all himself. And our daughter? She’s still tiny, so even if she brings her whole wardrobe, it barely weighs anything.

My husband packs with military precision – completely in control.

But please, do not interrupt me while I’m in packing mode. I have my system.

Off to the airport!

I have to admit —my husband and I make a great team when it comes to planning and dividing tasks. It’s such a comforting feeling to know that with him by my side, things will always work out somehow. That’s one of the reasons I ove traveling with our little family.

And the kids? They’re getting used to it all by now.

Yes, I know how that sounds. But hey-they’re lucky little bastards.

Except for today…

I’m finally on the plane while I’m writing this.

A two-hour delay turned into a six-hour delay. We would ‘ve missed our connecting flight if we hadn’t been rebooked.

So yeah-rebooked it is.

Which also means our travel day just turned into a marathon of more than 16 hours. And to complete the story? We had a flat tire on the last plane.

But what can you do? We just roll with it.

And somehow, the pilot still managed to land earlier than planned.

Go figure — a massive delay but an early arrival!

Back when we lived in the Netherlands, no vacation felt complete without a stop at Schiphol.

If you live in the U.S., you know road trips are a big thing here. Driving 10+ hours to your holiday spot is totally normal. And honestly? We’re getting good at that too. Just treat it like a new adventure.

The biggest tip? Don’t be too hard on yourself — or the kids. Let go of the strict rules and perfect routines. Especially on travel days.

And here we are, almost at our holiday destination!
We survived the packing struggles, the try-to-stay-polite-at-all-times airport challenge, the endless waiting at the gates (sorry not sorry—my kids are just kids), the culinary airport and airplane food (seriously, is there anyone in the world who actually likes that?), and last but not least: the airplane marathon.
We did it again — no crying kids, no marriage counseling needed.
We’re almost real world travellers… almost.
